Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS)

Minimally Invasive surgery is a way of operating through very small incisions. The benefits are excellent cosmetic results with tiny scars even for some bigger orthopaedic procedures. Many procedures can be performed through very small incisions but not all. Mr Uglow will explain whether any surgery that is proposed, how long scars are expected to be. Remember though, the wound will be made sufficiently large to perform the operation safely and correctly.

Mr Uglow is leading the way with using MIS in children.  A special side cutting burr that is only 2mm in width is used to cut bones when performing lengthening and deformity correction surgery. Some applications are:

  • Rotation correction
  • Angulation correction
  • Lengthening procedures
  • Foot deformity in children & adults

The scarring produced is very small and gives excellent cosmesis.
