Mr Michael Uglow trained at St George’s Hospital Medical School, London. After completing his house jobs in Midhurst and Epsom he moved to Southampton where he completed his basic and higher surgical training as part of the Wessex regional rotation. He finished his training with a one year specialist fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedic surgery at the New Children’s Hospital, Sydney, Australia. Mr Uglow was appointed as a Consultant to The Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust after his first consultant post at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.

Mr Uglow works as a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon and has a special interest in children’s orthopaedics and surgery of the foot & ankle. He also has an interest in sports injuries and provides orthopaedic services for patients of all ages with foot and ankle problems.

Mr Uglow has published on club foot surgery and various aspects of Orthopaedic trauma and is actively involved in ongoing research and education. He is frequently involved with lecturing at a national and international level and has been admitted to the board of examiners to The Intercollegiate Speciality Examination in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery.

Mr Uglow has previously held the role of lead clinician for Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery at Southampton General Hospital and as a trainee previously served as president of the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association.

MB,BS(Lond) 1989, FRCS(Eng) 1993, FRCS(Tr&Orth) 1998, FRCS(Glas) conferred in 2016.

Personal Profile

Mr Uglow is married with two adult sons, both at university. His time available for playing tennis and golf is sadly much less than he would desire!  He used to play rugby until his early 30s to County level and now enjoys keeping fit particularly fin the gym & with cycling.  He enjoys travel and in particular outdoor activity holidays, especially skiing, hiking and water sports.
